Local musicians and students gather for open house performances

The Rochester Academy of Music and Arts celebrates its fifth anniversary with a special Open House, free to the public.

Rochester, N.Y. – December 22, 2011 -- The Rochester Academy of Music & Arts will open its doors to the public on January 14, 2012, as the school hosts its first annual Open House.

The Rochester Academy of Music & Arts Open House will be held on Saturday January 14, from 2:30 to 3:30 pm. Rochester residents will be welcomed into the central Academy location, where they can view demonstrations of instruments, techniques, and all that the Academy has to offer. The event is free to the public and will feature performances from noted local musicians who teach at the school.

                      A Community Institution

The open house will commemorate the Academy’s fifth year in business, which is no small feat for a music school. While aspiring music teachers often start their own studios, it is not uncommon for them to close within a year. The Academy, which was once named “Hungness School of Music” after its owner and director, Brannon Hungness, has bucked this trend. This year, in an effort to shift focus from him, personally, and onto the population of students that gives the school its backbone, Hungness decided to change the name of the school.

“The school had started to grow very large and I felt like it was becoming more of a significant part of the community” Hungness says. “It wasn’t just something I had created anymore; it was something that our students, our teachers, and our staff had created together. It was a product of the music and arts culture of Rochester.”

On January 14, music minded individuals can experience firsthand the Academy’s contributions to the Rochester arts scene. Adults and children are welcome; free pizza will be served. No reservation is required to attend, but interested parties may call 585-506-9437 or email rochestermusiclessons@gmail.com for more information.

The Rochester Academy of Music and Arts, located at 161 Norris Drive in Rochester, has been providing quality music lessons since 2007. It is open for business Monday-Saturday, days and evenings. Call for availability.
