Mitchell & Nicky W.

Mitchell and Nicky are brothers who take lessons at the Academy! Mitchell plays piano and Nicky plays guitar.

They always perform in recitals and are a joy to see at lessons every week!

How long have you been taking lessons?

Mitchell: 8 years

Nicky: 7 years

What are your favorite musical artists?

N: I like the YouTuber TheDooo, especially his songs "Ascend Horizons" and "Eclipse." I like listening to a lot of songs without

vocals so I can really hear the guitar. I also like the Mortal Kombat theme, and sometimes I will tell Alexa to play the current Top 40.

I will listen to almost everything.

M: I like classical and jazz music best. My favorite composers to listen to are Liszt and Chopin.

What is the coolest thing you've learned in your lessons so far?

N: I learned to rapid pick, which is moving just your wrist to play fast. I like it because I can use it to play harder and better songs.

I am writing my own song now that uses it!

M: My favorite piece that I have learned is the Paganini Etude #1 by Liszt. I like learning lots of cool techniques to create imagery

through the music.

What do you like about your teacher?

N: He is really nice and always helps me learn a lot of new songs.

M: I like that she helps me make sure I am playing the right notes and rhythms so that I know every section of the

song is being played correctly.

What is your favorite part of playing in the recital?

N: It helps me conquer my stage fright and it is cool to show other people the songs I have worked really hard on. It makes learning new songs exciting.

M: I like the opportunity to perform at different places and practice performing pieces that you've learned and worked so hard on in front of others.
